Sam's Special Day

For an uneventful day, I have quite a bit to share! The morning started early with Tom, Drew, and Dane heading out for another day of work at about 6:30 am. Sam woke up when they left and I managed to convince him to go back to sleep for a little while. Addie was sawing logs until about 8:30! She needed her sleep after her rough day at Dollywood yesterday.

Chelcie graced us with her presence for about 15 minutes before heading out the door for Abby's lakehouse.

Addie's friend Morgan called and invited Addie over to swim and spend the night. Poor Sam! He knew that if Addie left, he'd be stuck with Mom all day! What could be worse than that?! I whispered to him that we could call his bff, Evan, and the prospect of a day with Evan cleared all the clouds away! His face lit up like a Christmas tree!

When I tried calling Evan's mom, I got their voicemail and left a message. I silently prayed that they weren't out of town. Hear my prayer, oh Lord!

Since it was a beautiful, sunny day, Addie, Sam, and I decided to walk to Morgan's house in a neighborhood about 2 miles away. (Okay, THEY didn't decide to walk, I did but they reluctantly complied). Addie packed lightly and we were off! We had just come through the jungle between my house and the Colonies when who should come dragging out of the woods, but BUFFET! Ugh! My pleas for her to "Go home!" went unanswered, and Addie, bless her heart, volunteered to run back to the house to get her leash so Buffet could come along with us.

The walk was nice and we enjoyed being together. Buffet managed the big hill on Ebenezer without too much trouble although I could tell she was struggling. Just imagine wearing a fur coat in 90 degree weather! Sam was feeling low since Evan's mom hadn't called back yet and was highly concerned that because we weren't home, we'd miss his return phone call! I assured him that I had my cell phone with me and his mom would call me when she got home. And she DID! Evan could come play at about 2:30 and stay until after dinner! Yee-haw! Sam got his second wind and we practically ran the rest of the way to Morgan's house.

Addie was all smiles and now, thankfully, so was Sam. Once Buffet nearly drowned herself in a big bowl of cool water, she smiled her best doggie smile as well!

The trip home was rough on Buffet and there were a few moments when I honestly thought she was going to lie down and die right there by the road, but she made it all the way back home!

The Glass Doctor stopped by to measure the broken windows and Sam and I waited, oh so patiently, for Evan to arrive. The mailman stopped by with a package from Susie Vanderlip; she sent me a copy of her book. She's an excellent communicator and does very well following through with what she says she will do!

Once he did, we headed down the street with a pocket full of pennies to be strategically placed for maximum smashness on the railroad tracks! My former student, Nick, came out of his house to chat about life and high school, etc. Erica passed by and gave me a call, but I missed it due to being enthralled with Nick's tales of who has gone wild and who has stayed the course in high school.

The boys had a blast as you can see in the pictures. Home to be reunited with Chelcie, then off again to Gatti's for some yummy trough food! Because we live in Knoxville, we someone we know almost everywhere we go, and we saw my former student, Taylor, while we were there. We took Evan home after our meal, and enjoyed a brief chat with his mom, Amy, and dad, Jimmy. I am constantly on the lookout for potential "young" friends because most of our friends have empty nests now and we have a long way to go! Amy and Jimmy, look-out!

Have no fear! Pictures coming tomorrow!
